In The Philippines One of the sons of the Philippines president is being questioned over drug related offences in the country. He is accused of helping drugs shipment from China into the Philippines. The son; Paolo Duterte told a senate inquiry that claims he helped ship drugs from China to the Philippines were “baseless” and had gone ahead to deny involvement in a drug smuggling operation. The president’s son-in-law also denied involvement, calling the allegations “rumours and gossip”. President Duterte launched a violent campaign against drug crime shortly after he came to power last year. Mr Duterte, whose crackdown has left thousands of people dead, has promised to resign if any family members are involved in the trade.
From the Thai media comes the story of a young woman who, over the course of about two years, convinced at least 11 different men to marry her. Following Thai tradition, each man gave her a generous sum of money — a dowry — at which point she disappeared, the men told police. From each husband, she collected between $6,000 and $30,000 before vanishing, using various excuses such as she had to return to her family’s home to deal with their fruit business or her horoscope advised her that it just wasn’t a good time to be married. A man’s parents reportedly flew from India to Florida to “discipline” his wife for “being disobedience”. Authorities rescued the mother of a one-year-old, from what they described as a “horribly abusive situation”. The woman, who has not been named, was held in her home against her will by her husband, Devbir Kalsi, 33. Police said his parents had flown to his home to participate in the abuse. The arrest report said Kalsi struck her “repeatedly and forcefully” and when the woman attempted to defend herself, his parents began hitting her too, leaving bruises on her face, neck and torso.
